Highly Carter married march 10 , 1808 Clarke Co Georgia to Noel F.
Roberts
Noel F. Roberts, one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred
colonists, received his Mexican land grant of one and one-fourth
leagues on July 15, 1824. Stephen F. Austin and the Baron de Bastrop
signed it. His land stretched for about one and a half miles along the
north or east bank of the Brazos River and stretched about five miles
north. The present-day town of Simonton in Fort Bend County is situated
on the old Noel F. Roberts League.
Roberts first married Highley Carter on March 10, 1808, in Clarke
County, Georgia. They had three sons: John Hardin. William Taylor, and
Josiah. John Hardin and his mother both died in 1817. William and
Josiah went to Texas with their father.
Roberts next married Morning Harper in Lawrence County,
Mississippi, on November 19, 1820. There were probably a son and a
daughter born to this marriage as the 1826 census to Austin's Colony
lists Noel F. as widower age forty to fifty, farmer and stockraiser. He
had four slaves, one son under seven years of age, two sons between
seven and sixteen, and one daughter under seven. If Morning Harper came
to Texas, she died before 1826.
He next married Harriet Pryor by marriage bond on July 26, 1826.
Harriet was the oldest child of William Pryor, another of the Old Three
Hundred families. To this marriage were born Elisha, Hirma, John, Mary,
and Thomas Roberts.
Noel's son William married Elizabeth "Betsy" Pryor, William
Pryor's youngest daughter. William and Josiah fought in the Texas
Revolution. William was in the Battle of San Jacinto. He and Betsy
walked the battlefield the next day with Betsy carrying her
first-born son.
Noel died in the fall of 1843, leaving a large estate.

| Joseph and some of his
relatives have done the research on the Carter family, but have been
unable to discover for sure who
the parents of Elizabeth Berry are. While reading census records for
the Berry project, Susan
Barlow Holmes has come to decide that she may well be
the daughter of William Berry and either P. Myers or Sarah Boomer, but have
no way of proving that. I (Joe) have supplied the Census
records listed above to show that the Bishop family that married a
couple of Berry women were living next to William Burton Carter and
Elizabeth in the Polk County Census records in the Coldsprings
district of Texas before the Bishop families relocated to Robertson
County Texas and this does support that theory. They all resided in the
Marion , Simpson,Covington and Copiah Co's of Mississippi. before
moving to Texas.
If anyone
knows anything about the Wives or parents of John Carter Sr. that
died around1811 in Greene County Tennessee or can help with the Maiden
name of Charity ( thought to be either Elam , Hamilton or Samples
?)we only know she was married to Jacob Carter son to John Sr..We are
also looking for more information on William Wilkins Carter's first
wife Appylonia Watson mother to William Burton Carter and daughter of
Harrison Watson and Hannah Jarrel and we are seeking information on
William Wilkins Carter's second wife Delila Bass a possible relative
being Jere (Jeremiah )Bass we think she may have been married to a Bass
before marrying our William Carter based on a few Bass children
listed in the Census records of Her and William Carter. Note: Any
Help at all will be appreciated and if you can contribute information
that I can post here on this page then please contact me Joseph Guinn Carter or
contact Shirley Hager
or
please post the information on the Carter Forum. |
